From Alaska to Croatia

From Alaska to Croatia (and around the world inbetween). Many people ask how I met my man as he is Croatian and I am British. "I met him in Alaska". Back in 1996 on Cunard's Crown Dynasty we met whilst working on the ship and berthed in Juneau. The ship had 300 crew and about 28 were Croatian, and half of these originated from Dubrovnik. Alaska has breathtaking scenery, incredible glaciers (which you can walk on), clear unpolluted air, stunning natural landscapes, and magical sunsets, never mind watching up close the beauty of the whales, bears and abundant wildlife.

May 1st, brunch

Is it usual to stop for 'brunch' at 11.10am and order octopus salad and mussels? Well before meeting my clients Edin and I stopped at our favourite restaurant in Mali Ston, Bota Sare, for mixed mussels. Apparently they aren't so big at this time of year so we ordered a mix. A pleasure to all the senses! Seems that May 1st every year we have tended to gravitate towards this restaurant for the mussels. Came across the mollusks called 'Noah's Ark' - heaven!

Sailing at the Weekend

The weekend is upon us and I am preparing to become a "sailor's widow" yet again. Yes, Edin is off to Split sailing. Here are some from last year - the faster the better. Yikes! Think I'll go out only when it's calm. When the golf course comes to Dubrovnik I'll no doubt be a "golfer's widow".

Snow's Going!

So pleased the snow lasted just one day. What freak weather. The photo above shows Edin yesterday shovelling the snow/ice from the front door steps. The top two are taken this afternoon with the back of the Old Town framed by the mountains. Expecting a good weekend!
